Advancing low-emission terminal operations at DFDS Immingham

In partnership with Kalmar, we have reached an important step forward at our Immingham Terminal with the introduction of the UK’s first high-voltage heavy electric Kalmar units. This deployment includes an Electric Heavy Forklift and an Electric Reachstacker - both engineered to deliver strong operational performance while generating zero emissions at source.

This launch marks another tangible move toward DFDS’ sustainability goals: reducing Well to Wheel emissions across road, land transport, terminals and warehousing by 75% by 2030, and achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

“Bringing these high voltage electric Kalmar units into operation is a meaningful milestone for DFDS and a clear sign of the direction we’re heading. Electrifying large industrial machinery is challenging, but essential. With partners like Kalmar, we’re showing that reliable, zero emission solutions can meet real operational demands - and they’re becoming a core part of our journey toward cleaner, future ready terminals,” - says Peter Beauchamp, Asset Manager at DFDS.

During the inauguration event, Kalmar recognised DFDS’ decarbonisation progress with the Eco Hero diploma. The award was presented by Mette Kjems Bærentzen, Director of Decarbonisation at Kalmar, to Peter Beauchamp - a moment that reflects the dedication and collaboration of both teams.

Electrifying heavy duty terminal equipment remains a major challenge for the logistics sector, where reliability, safety and operational demands are critical. Yet this is exactly why these advances matter. At DFDS, we remain committed to continuous improvement, long term sustainability and future ready terminals – and partnerships like this are essential to making it happen.
